Play Atlas with Madminers!

In addition to Minecraft, we also have an Atlas server.
Atlas is an online pirate survival game that includes gorgeous scenery and intense crafting and sailing features. The game is relatively "hardcore" compared to Minecraft and it's more challenging to stay alive. Here's what you need to know to get started:

Our server does not require BattleEye and we highly recommend against installing it.

Things to Note About Atlas

  1. Atlas is an "Early Access" game in it's "Alpha" stage of development. That means that the game is not finished and is stil being developed. There are a lot of bugs and problems you might have to tolerate.
  2. Atlas is a DIFFICULT game. It is very challenging to stay alive in this game. It's not like Minecraft. You'll likely die several times in your first play session, as you learn how to survive.
  3. We are new at managing an Atlas server. We've found it astronomically more complicated than running a Minecraft server. Please be patient and understand that we may run into major issues, including loss of items, inventory, or having to wipe the server. Also, we may change the way the game works as we learn how to balance it.

Finding Our Server

(Assuming you've already purchased and installed the game through Steam)

First, you must be on the whitelist to get on our server. Send KingDingbat a friend request on Steam, and let him know which existing Madminer player referred you, and which game you want to play. (Atlas!)
Do this before you want to play, as it may take a day or two to add you. You can then continue to log in:

  1. Once you've installed the game from Steam, launch it and at the main menu click Join Online Atlas
  2. On the server list page, make sure that "Unofficial" is chosen in the Session Filter.
  3. In the Name Filter: Search box at the top of the screen, type our world name "Booty Bay". It should automatically come up and all the other servers in the list will disappear.
  4. Next, click on the blue Booty Bay server name and click the Select Atlas World button at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Then, click Freeport Cay (B2) on the map or list. At this point, we recommend you click the "Add to Favorites" button.
  6. and then the Join button, and you're in!

About Booty Bay

The map/world is currently a 4 x 4 region world, which means there are 16 regions. You'll begin on an island in the region named Freeport Cay, on one of two islands, San Wan (west) or St. Edna (east).  The regions, also known as "shards" are each a separate server.
You can travel "seamlessly" between regions. We say seamlessly because there is no logging out/in or loading screens, but there is actually a short loading time when you hit the boundary. NOTE: If the border to a region (at sea) is ever red and firey with smoke DO NOT CROSS. YOU WILL DIE. Notify KingDingbat or DirtyPeanut immediately as this indicates that the server you're trying to enter is down.

Booty Bay Mods

Our game is running some server mods. You can find out about them here.

Some starting tips:

  • For a good starter guide, check out the official basics guide here.or, the unofficial guide here.
  • "What does that icon mean?"
  • MAP: You can view a handheld map and compass any time by typing "M". Hold your left mouse button to look closer at the map. Hold your right mouse button to look closer at the compass.
  • Surviving in this game is brutal. The first things you'll need to do to survive is:
    • Punch trees and pick up small rocks (E) to get wood & stone. Don't punch trees too much, it hurts you. Once you have enough you'll be able to make a rudementary axe and pick after your first level up.
    • Collect berries and vegetables (and other plant materials) by hovering your cursor over a plant and typing "E"
    • Keep an eye on your water meter. You need to drink fresh water before you dehydrate. On the Freeport starting islands you can just go to the fresh water pool by the port (buildings). To drink, just swim in the pool.
You can also drink from the ground by playing the dig for water mini game.
    • Make a campfire so you can cook your meats.
    • When you have weapons start hunting for meat and fish. You need both to stay healthy. Your diet consists of meat, fish, fruit and veggies. You need all 4 to keep your nutrition balanced.
      • Try to stick to smaller fish and birds - most of the animals will fight back and easily kill you if you're not careful.
  • You access your inventory, crafting and character interfaces by typing the "I" key. You can also see a better map here by clicking "Atlas" at the top fo the page.

Hot Tips:

  • Some items require you to place them in the inventory of a tool item to use them. For example,
    • Meat requires you to put it IN the camfire (or cooking pot's) inventory to cook it.
    • a Smithy bench requires you to place all the crafting ingredients in the Smithy's inventory.
    • A water skin (where you collect and carry water) requires you to put it into a water barrel's "inventory" to fill it.
      • Alternatively with the water skin, you can just equip it, and swim in a fresh water pond and use it (hotkey #) to fill it.
  • Tools collect resources differently depending on what you use.
    • If you are collecting wood, use an axe, obviously, but:
    • If you are collecting thatch, use a pickaxe on trees instead. It collects more thatch than the axe.
    • If you are collecting flesh from a creature, use a pickaxe. It collects more meat than an axe.
    • If you are collecting shell or skin, use an axe. It collects more of those than a pickaxe.
    • The better tools you have, the more resources they collect.
    • These ideas expand to almost all resources. Experiment to find the best returns, or see the official wiki's section on tools.
  • In most cases, when you place a structure/object, you only have a few seconds to pick it back up before you can't do so without destroying it. Be sure that's where you want to put it.
  • You can only level up to level 12 on the starting island (Freeport Cay). Once you reach that level, you'll need to sail away (See the shipmaster on the end of the dock in town) to continue gaining XP.
